Welcome from the Chair...

This is an excellent time to be in the arts. Fine Art and Design has the capacity to touch lives in ways few other disciplines can -- enriching our lives and, more importantly, blending with other programs to create new and unexpected areas of study and experiences.

Herb Goodman, ChairStudies that were not imagined just a few years ago are being taught in our classrooms. This, in addition to the resurgence of our classic disciplines, has provided exciting times and new horizons.

You will find the program here is one of the Midwest's “crown jewels". Over the course of the past eight years, we have, through university and private initiatives, made an investment of more than 2.5 million dollars ensuring our facilities are second to none. This has resulted in superior studios, two state of the art computer labs, software, tools, and numerous safety upgrades.

Our faculty is a community of creative people devoted to their fields of art and design. They include nationally and internationally recognized artists, designers, art educators, and art historians. Truly a personable group of people who are united toward a common goal: providing a quality, individualized, world-class education.

Students are involved in both the social life and decision-making of the Department through the Art Student Association, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and the Art Education Student Association. Art and Design scholarships are available. Additionally, many EKU students receive partial or full assistance for their entire degree program through the University's scholarshiploan, and work-study programs.

Our areas of study include: Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Jewelry and Metals, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. The facilities in every studio area, classroom, computer labs, and the Giles Gallery, are excellent and equal to many graduate-level programs at the largest universities.

We are home to the Giles Art Gallery and just a short drive from some of the most impressive museums & galleries in the Midwest. The region also feeds a major national market for graphic design.

As people say - seeing is believing. Let me personally invite you to visit and tour our facility. Make arrangements by e-mailing me at herb.goodman@eku.edu or calling 859-622-1629.

If you have visited previously, please visit again. We welcome you to sit in on some of our classes, view a gallery show, or to speak at length with a faculty member in your area of career interest.
