Mission Statement:

The Department of Art and Design strives for the highest possible standards of success for our diverse disciplines, fostering critical and creative thinking, effective communication, problem solving, community engagement, and stewardship, while maintaining a safe, inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment for our students, faculty, and staff. 

Vision Statement:

Art and design at Eastern Kentucky University enhances the life, imagination and education of  our students and the surrounding community. We create cultural assets among our students, who excel in the fields of art and design, becoming great problem solvers in the growing creative class. Our program teaches creative and critical thinking alongside comprehensive communication skills.

Eastern Kentucky University's Art and Design Department will emerge as one of the nation's preeminent regional programs in the 21st Century. The faculty is poised for greatness, not simply responding to existing needs but charting a progressive course for our respective medias as we adapt to a dynamic, global society.

The Department will be widely recognized for the quality, accessibility, and academic rigor of its educational, research and outreach programs, as well as its broad access to our students, university and community. The Department will insure the quality of its programs through the nurture, development and focusing of partnerships and resources. We look with excitement to a changing tomorrow.
